Suncity Group 66th Macau Grand Prix – The Final Showdown
This is the fourth day of the Suncity Group 66th Macau Grand Prix. This, is the final showdown on the legendary Guia Circuit.
Special events for the day included a supercar parade featuring supercars provided by Sun International Automobile plus a traditional lion dance. Suncity Group also claimed the top spot in the “My Favourite Racing Model Team” Media Election.
In the attendance of the Sunday race included officials and celebrities such as Charlie Young, Myolie Wu, Tony Hung, Carlos Chan and Andrew Yuen.
Suncity Group Macau Guia Race – FIA WTCR – Race 2 – 8 laps
Yvan Muller doubled up on Macau Guia Race victories, winning the reversed-grid Race 2. The French driver started fifth, advanced into the lead before the end of the opening lap, and remained in the top spot all the way as Thed Bjork stayed in Muller’s slipstream and Kevin Ceccon finished third. YM Choong, President of Marketing Strategy of Suncity Group was at the podium to present the awards to the winners.
Suncity Group Greater Bay Area GT Cup – 12 laps
The all-new 12-lap race featured GT4 cars which makes the race much more challenging than touring car races. Macao driver Kevin Tse took a pole-to-flag victory in the inaugural race, dominating the race on his home track. Philip Lawrence Kadoorie was second and Chang Wei Chung came third. Appearing on the podium for the award presentation ceremony were Tony Hung and Andrew Yuen.
Suncity Group Macau Guia Race – FIA WTCR – Race 3 – 11 laps
As the finale of this year’s Suncity Group Macau Guia Race – FIA WTCR, the 11-lap race was much tenser than the previous 2 rounds, and Andy Priaulx claimed his first career FIA WTCR victory by passing polesitter Rob Huff at the start of the race and kept him off in a tense showdown. Jean-Karl Vernay settled into third place and stayed in formation all the way. Celebrities Charlie Young, Myolie Wu and Carlos Chan appeared at the podium for the award presentation ceremony.
Macau GT Cup - FIA GT World Cup – 18 laps
Raffaele Marciello put in a second flawless drive as it had been in the Qualification Race, securing the SJM Macau GT Cup - FIA GT World Cup with Laurens Vanthoor and Earl Bamber on his tail.
Suncity Group Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix – FIA F3 World Cup – 15 laps
The final showdown of the entire event, the 15-lap race was dramatic and purely sensational as Macao rookie Richard Verschoor upset the form book by holding off pre-race favourite Jüri Vips, securing a victory the first time he raced in Macao. Another Macao rookie Logan Sargeant took the third spot on the podium. For the title race, Dr. Alexis Tam Chon Weng, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government and President of the Macau Grand Prix Organizing Committee, presented the awards to the winning racers.
