More than 200 Suncity Group Volunteers Join The Typhoon Cleaning and Relieving Operation
Typhoon Hato, a number 10 force typhoon, pummeled Macau on August 23, causing extensive damage, 10 deaths and more than a hundred injured, a citywide blackout, water supply disruptions and serious flooding.
Being a Macau born and bred enterprise, Suncity Group hope to contribute efforts and spirit to patch the damaged city and hearts of those family who had lost lives in this tragedy. In relation to this tragedy, Suncity Group has generously donated MOP5 million to the affected families. Meanwhile, the Group has organized disaster relief operation along with Inspirational Youth Association, Fukien Sports General Association of Macao and Si Ka Lon, Member of the Legislative Assembly.
Since many residents, especially those elderly people who live alone, is short of food and water, the Suncity volunteers started off on August 24 with food and water distribution at Rua da Praia do Manduco. Later on, more than 200 volunteers joined the cleaning and relieving operation on August 25, the volunteers went to Areia Preta, Fai Chi Kei to clean up mounds of rubbish and toppled trees, and delivered 3,000 meals at Toi San, Rua da Praia do Manduco, San Kio Cinema Alegria and Rua de Cinco de Outubro on the same day.
Gina Lei, Senior Vice President of Corporate & Community Relations of Suncity Group said: ‘Alvin Chau, Chief Executive Officer and Director of Suncity Group, hopes to rebuild the city as soon as possible, as a Macau enterprise, we want to contribute to society, other than donating MOP 5 million to those in need, we are also actively organizing disaster relief operation, after coordinating with IACM, the Areia Preta area is assigned to us for following up. I know that many Macau residents offer help after the disaster in different ways, which is very warm and touching, and I think everyone should do so.’
