“Limbo”, a Co-Production of Sun Entertainment Culture, Selected For Far East Film Festival 23
Suncity Group has always been committed to promoting the development of the entertainment and cultural industries. Recently, “Limbo”, a co-production of Sun Entertainment Culture produced by Wilson Yip and Paco Wong, directed by Soi Cheang and starring Lam Ka Tung, Cya Liu and Mason Lee, has been selected for the Competition Section of the Far East Film Festival, following its selection for the “Berlinale Special” of the 71st Berlin International Film Festival.
The film “Limbo” is adapted from the novel of the same name by Lei Mi, but the director Soi Cheang decided to give the original story a twist, bringing the setting to Hong Kong in the 80s, which is when he first moved to Hong Kong. “Back then I lived in Sham Shui Po, all the rubbish in the back alleys, the slum-like feel, that was where I grew up and my first strong impression of Hong Kong.” To him, the 1980s Hong Kong vibe would fit just right when making a film based on the novel and its scenes.
In addition, when choosing film locations, Soi Cheang deliberately chose sites that were disappearing, such as back alleys, the older urban areas, etc. “The world is always changing, especially Hong Kong in recent years. I wanted to capture these images together with the more dramatic ones through the lens, such as a large platform with trains passing nearby, or the maze-like back alleys that are hard to navigate. They simply had the same atmosphere as the film itself.”
Suncity Group will continue to support the sustainable development and full recovery of the entertainment and cultural industries, creating a diversified world of entertainment. As Sun Entertainment Culture presents more outstanding entertainment to audiences around the world, we look forward to seeing more of our productions shine on the international stage.
